Our story first began in 1989 when Dorchester Insurance Brokers Ltd was founded by Brian Wallace and Ken Thornton.

Now under a second generation of ownership, the team at Dorchester Insurance continues to provide professional, friendly, and highly personalized service for families and businesses across Ontario.

In 2002, Ken’s son Derek joined Dorchester Insurance followed by Brian’s son, Owen, in 2008.

As a family-oriented business at our core, we value maintaining personal relationships with our clients and the insurance partners we work with on a daily basis.

Derek Thornton grew up in Dorchester and attended Fanshawe College. After receiving his Business Insurance Diploma in 2002, Derek received his Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) license and joined Dorchester Insurance. He completed his Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation in 2008.

Derek lives in Dorchester with his wife Katie and their daughter Rylie.  Derek is an avid sports fan, he loves watching Baseball, Hockey and European Football.  In his spare time he enjoys playing sports, travelling, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Owen Wallace grew up in Dorchester and attended Fanshawe College. After receiving an Honours diploma from the Legal Assistant program in 1995, he went on to receive his Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) license in 1998. Since then, he has worked as an insurance broker, receiving his Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation in 2002.  He joined the team at Dorchester Insurance in April 2008.

Owen lives in Dorchester with his wife Rebecca and their son Isaiah and their daughter Lyla.  Owen is an avid sports fan who loves to watch Baseball, Hockey, Football, and Basketball.  In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, reading, listening to music, playing golf, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
